Metolius: Exceptional Climbing Equipment By Climbers, For Climbers

Built with a safety-first philosophy, Metolius has been revolutionizing climbing gear for over 35 years. Back in the 1980s, climbing equipment was very different than today: it was largely un-tested, uncomfortable, inadequate, or unavailable. Many solved this problem by making their own equipment, including Doug Philips. Doug realized early on that there was massive room for improvement in nearly every aspect of his gear, and in the early 1980s he began experimenting with new designs in his garage. His innovative new harnesses and hardware were such a game-changer in terms of safety, comfort, and functionality, that Doug quickly became unable to meet demand from the local climbers in his community. His small project soon grew into a full-blown company, which he named Metolius after a river by his house.

To this day, Metolius remains a game-changer. With that same drive to innovate and improve, Metolius constantly strives to create the strongest, safest, most bombproof gear in the world. At every opportunity they try to exceed the established safety standards while providing the highest level of performance by exhaustively testing and re-testing in the lab and out in the real world. The result is that every Metolius climbing nut, rope, cam, step, sling, harness, bag, backpack, grip, quickdraw, carabiner, tool, ascender, shelter, glove, and more is of the absolute highest quality and safety. You can place your trust in Metolius knowing you're climbing with one of the very best.

At OutlandUSA.com, we carry a very wide range of Metolius products, and their climbing grips are very popular. Many of the climbers and adventurers who work at Outland USA love Metolius gear and highly recommend them. Give Metolius a try.

 Questions & Tips

Q: What is the difference between a screw-on and bolt-on hold?

Bolt-on holds require a t-nut on the back of the wall, and can be moved interchangeably between holes. Screw-on holds are screwed on from the front of the wall, and cannot be moved around on the wall without leaving screw holes.

Q: Can I use your climbing holds outside?

No, unfortunately, you cannot. The hold material may fade or become damaged, and the hardware will rust. For holds specifically made for outdoor use, try Atomik Climbing.

Q: Is it okay to use carabiners that have been dropped?

Unfortunately, the only way to know if dropped carabiners are fit for use is to test them to their breaking point. It's best to inspect dropped gear for dings and significant trauma. If only light scratching is visible and gate action is still good, there is a good chance it is fit for usage. Remember, only you know what your gear has been through and if there is any doubt, it's best to retire the gear rather than take a risk.

Q: Does Metolius offer cam repair?

Yes, reach out to us and we can help you send in your cams for repair. If you do, plan on two weeks in the shop, plus shipping.
