Greater Safety, Better Quality of Life

Icebug: Amazing Traction Footwear for Winter & Ice

Icebug's most important tasks is to get people outdoors, and since 2001, they've been doing just that. Icebug was founded by David Ekelund and his mother, Eliza Törnkvist who recognized early on that there was a major gap in the performance of outdoor footwear at the time. While there were plenty of quality outdoor shoes that could keep your feet warm, there were virtually none with the proper traction needed to run or hike in icy conditions. And thus Icebug was born, creating some of the worlds first well-gripping shoes with dynamic steel studs.

To this day, Icebugs amazing traction remains its wow factor and greatest asset. Putting on shoes with one of their traction technologies, such as the dynamic steel studs on ice, the RB9X rubber on wet cliffs, or tractor pattern in clay, and experiencing grip where you expected to slip is simply something unique. Their wow factor truly makes customers fall in love with Icebug, and they are some of the most well recommended shoes we sell. If you spend a lot of time running or hiking on ice or mud, Icebug is a fantastic choice to avoid slipping. Be sure to check out the Men's Metro2 Bugrip or the Women's Grove Boot.

At, we love Icebug for their incredible quality and effectiveness. And what's more, Icebug has an amazing commitment to sustainability, becoming the worlds first climate positive outdoor footwear brand. So, you can wear Icebug knowing you're supporting a company dedicated to protecting our planet.

 Questions & Tips

Q: Can I wear my Icebug shoes inside?

As a general rule, Icebug shoes are not recommended for indoor use. This is because the traction technology of the shoes are built for use on soft (and slippery) surfaces, and most utilize metal spikes or deep rubber grooves. While Icebug soles are extremely ware-resistant, the same cannot always be said for your floors, which may become scratched or marked by your shoes when worn indoors. Less aggressive soles, like the MICHELIN Technical Soles, might be fine, but can still scuff your floors due to the high friction and grip of the soles.

Q: What is BUGrip technology?

BUGrip is the name of Icebugs grip technology for the most slippery conditions. A BUGrip sole is made of a special rubber compound and has 13-19 integrated steel studs. The design of the studs, together with the properties of the rubber compound, give these studs a dynamic function. The studs work independently from each other and are not completely fixed. When weight is applied the studs push in toward the surface of the sole. How far they are pushed in depends on the pressure exerted by the user and the resistance from the ground. This dynamic function makes the studs adapt to the surface and provide the best possible traction on anything from dry asphalt to pure ice.
